Our producer on SC1 and II (Pam Levins) was very supportive and professional. Unfortunately, Accolade's desire to continue the series doesn't seem matched with the capacity to do so. Fwiffo: who did the most design work in Star Control 2? By design, I mean plotting/naming of stars, and writing the excellent storyline. spectrum, commodore 64, genesis, pc, 3do.. are there any other ports of the starcontrol series? I think sc1 may have been on the amiga too ? I (Paul) wrote the story with the help of Greg Johnson (Starflight) and my old TSR buddies Erol Otus and Mat Genser. Yep.. Probably ST, also. dog Rgarding the Spectrum and C64 ports of SC1, I can only say "WE DIDN'T HAVE A THING TO DO WITH THEM!" interesting... Were they that bad? were there any more ports? Hi! You're late err <_Stilgar> Fwiffo- what incentive would you guys need to work on another StarControl sequal? a large chunk of cash? :) Where r they ? I'll pay top dollar for another starcontrol game Earthling: "Fwiffo" The genesis of the SC series is a long story, beginning, believe it or not, at Electronic Arts. After finishing World Tour Golf for EA, my old partners Evan and Nicky and I decided to make a modem game (code-named Camero at that time) and we proposed a science-fiction Archon game. Or even just a TFB space game. When's your next space game? *** Mohegan (gysaroyan@jeswest-ibm10.dorm.utexas.edu) has joined channel #StarControl Cool Yeah 1000$ for me for the real SC2 sequel. from me.. if there's 2 games i'd like to program, it would be a beefed up spacewars like starcon2 super melee for the ti-86, and a game like quest for glory. notice how i like games with killing, upgrades, and adventure rolled into one. Star Control 1+2 (the compendium pack) was the first PC game I ever bought.. and one of the very very few that I have purcahsed (Alone in the Dark being the other) When are the creators coming again? If you guys want a Science-fiction game from TFB, send letters to our Crystal cohorts! ok what's the address? COnsider that done :) <_Stilgar> Fwiffo- where do we address them? Er... I was shocked that accolade has dropped starcon.. why have u desided to leave accolade ? Just let him know that you would buy 48,000 copies of a science-fiction game from us! heheheh. hehe Each maybe 48, but not 48000! oh Hang on a second.. have I missed something here? SC4 has suffered the same fate SC3 should have ? <_Stilgar> Fwiffo- Just 48,000?? What about 4,800,000? so what really happend ? have u left or they dropped sc the game would have the #sc fan's 200% support Hmm.. i wonder how many i have with thousand dollar.. not that much - that's for sure... <_Stilgar> Fwiffo- was it your intention to make the Orz the "bad guys" in StarControl 3? What DID the Orz do to the Androsynth? oh fwiffo, i have an idea for a scifi game, put real physics into it (so as to jury rig ships: put 4% of the tokamak exhaust into the hair dryer and point it at the ram scoops), then make it 3d with REAL scifi space combat (like the man-kzin wars). About leaving Accolade: after finishing SC2 we needed a rest, and proposed a simple game "The Horde" before moving on to SC3. Accolade didn't want to publish the Horde, and our friends at Crystal Dynamics did. Fwiffo-what made u leave accolade ? How did you find the people behind SC2 great musical themes? aren't the druuge similar to a hydraulic empire? or was that the crux? Fwiffo: Was your original intention for SC3 to be based around the Mark II which was "found" at the end of Star Control 2? In our rambling thoughts about SC3 we did seriously consider having the Orz assume a much larger and more ominous role, opposed to the return of the Precursors. Fwiffo - What about that 'add on' pack for sc2 giving more ships that was never released? does it exist? I notice there are some finnish people behind it even. sc2 was one of the best "Quests" I have ever played , I think u should make a newer version of it , but with a longer plot and better Graphics FWiffo- What really happened to the Androsynth in sc2? Adder: most of them can be found in a group called KFMF (Kosmic Free Music Foundation) .. well at least the main 3 or 4 can. please! i think fwiffo is getting a bit swamped... Fwiffo-from where the Orz came from ? a ship that can slip backwards in time, would that be having a copy of the ship you're fighting appear next to you, and in a minute the first one disappears? how would the game know the damage the 1st ship has taken in the minute after sliding? DEf. the same strong plot & tongue-in-cheek humour fwiffo: 32 track module music ;) Anton LaVey? Hey, he always has cute attedants! No, Satanism, per se, has little interest for us. I'm not sure about game engine (2D/3D) tho. Point of View: don't sell out to the modern first-person action-from hell perspective Tracked music, good plot, good graphics (yes in that order) It should have the same point of view . third person top down for the melee... and ther should be a GOOD netwroked version of the melee. FW: I'd mostly for sure choose a 3d from a "modern" sc, I'd expect (read: hope) for a 2d "top down" and 3d "in the drivers seat" perspective. I wouldn't go overboard on movies or cut scenes, nor would I go crazy on the "Holywood Animatronics" like they attempted with sc3 Take the space combat perspective further, using some 3d, but not an extreme amount In regards to breaking into the industry, get into a company in any role you can (like test), and then show off what you can do. There is a real talent vacuum! and it also needs network / modem melee :) Perhaps the capacity for network play (several people in an arena) could be done... Good gameplay, good plot. All else is simply fluff. I've always wanted to see the "Full Starcon Universe"...in other words, in the second two games, there was something...distracting the races. I want hundred ship fleets and other impossible to program things :) MORE THAN TWO SHIPS IN A BATTLE! How much has Subspace already defined a modern Melee experience? FW: I.E it'd be REAL lame if every race will have only one type of ship I think movies are important, tho. I dislike hammy FMV. A good intro., a few occasional cut sequences as rewards and an excellent extro really do it for me! accelerated 3D is nice...but for an SC game is would be from a top-down view...not first-person, not isometric... Yes, several ship's per race i think that having polygonal ships wouldn't be too bad, give it true 3d with the choice of moving ships over a flat plane as sc1 or free movement as starcon Fwiffo: Story is the most important thing. The dialogue is next. Combat could be changed, but it would still have to be fastpaced. Some of that new 3D in there =) imo...the subspace ships aren't unique enough...differentiated ship types would equal more teamwork The plot and the myriad of works/twists (like quasi-space, etc) is what makes the *adventure* portion...interface being arguably less important. Perhaps go further with the Melnorme and make a bit more trading/upgrading possible -- u What about the planetside experience? Does this interest you folks? Subspace rules. 50 people fighting in the same arena. Good stuff! My name in Subspace is Electric Boots btw... yeah...each race needs multiple ships, perhaps one for attack and one for defence? different ways was FUN. use the SC3 combat engine if going for 2D, but make the field bigger, the gravity weaker and the ships brighter! If anyone would like them, the MOD music from SC2 is available at http://www.kosmic.org/sc2 yeah, giving the player some choice is a good idea. I believe it's called Timewarp. <_Stilgar> Fwiffo- were the minerals and biologicals on the planets generated in a random fashion? was this also true about the star map? <_Stilgar> Q: Are you still making any money on SC1 or SC2? The Stars themselves were layed-out to look interesting. 99% of the planetary data was automatically generated, and then we overwrode key planets to aid in supporting the story. We make a few hundred dollars every 3 months. A must ask: Which you like most TNG,DS9,Original,B5,Movies? I like the arc episodes of Babylon 5 a lot, for perhaps obvious reasons. In truth though, I watch all the rest of them too. How is Frungy played?
